October 2nd Update

It’s hard to believe that we are in the second day of October. Where did September zip away to? Surely you’ve started classes, and driving your students to football and soccer league practices; music and art lessons, and no doubt a variety of volunteer activities for church and community. How about all the many plans we declined to put into action because it was ‘just too hot’ or we were far too busy with vacations, and just hanging out? The crisp fall weather is invigorating and now, I must admit, I want to spend time out in the yard,or take on an additional project or two around the house. No doubt your students are feeling the same way, they are energized and I hope excited about the new school year. Capitalize on this new outlook, and encourage your student to take on the challenge of a brand new school year. If last year’s classes ended on a sour note, take the time to write out a few new goals and objectives for avoiding the same pitfalls. Is this your first year of home school? Bring excitement into your classroom and emphasize the joy of learning at home. Do not, I repeat, do not duplicate the public or private school setting at home. Create a work or learning space for your student that is unique to who they are, or that reflects their interests and aspirations for the coming year. Above all, have fun, school and teaching is as fleeting as the months on our calendars, teach and enjoy the time you’ve been given.
